Leslie
joined ECC as Technical Director from Systemcare in July 1990
and brought with him a very high level of in-depth expertise,
including the unusual combination of operating environment
and software design technology. Leslie is responsible for
the long-term technical direction of ECC and the technical
strategy of all of its customers, identifying potentially
important skill sets and technologies and ensuring that company
knowledge levels are able to exploit current and future opportunities.
Avoiding certain technologies can be just as important as
adopting others, and there is no doubt that careful strategic
decisions have made a key contribution to the company's success.
Despite
being technically oriented, Leslie has considerable business
experience allowing him to identify means of using technology
efficiently, as well as understanding the opportunities it
offers and the design solutions needed to exploit these. An
example of this was the Bodycote plc GOLD System e-Business
in Action.
Educated
in Computer Science and Mathematics, Leslie won an award from
Sunderland Polytechnic in 1988 for the fastest ever attainment
of a part-time degree (three years) whilst working full time
in the R&D Software Department of Courtaulds plc.
As
well as being a technoholic (studying vigorously all new devices,
tools and concepts as they appear), Leslie is a passionate
motorcycling enthusiast and the proud owner of a Ducati 996
which carries him on his annual pilgrimage to the Isle of
Man.
