ECC joined 250 other keen knowledge enthusiasts at the 4th annual Knowledge Management Conference held at the Novotel Conference Centre in London. ECC were very activley involved in the various debates covering topics such as 'Communities are the future for knowledge exploitation' and 'Say No to Knowledge Management'.

The event was hosted by the leading UK practitioner Ron Young of Knowledge Associates and was sponsored by the leading KM companies BizMedia, Knowledge Management Magazine, TFPL, Orbital (a prominent Scottish KM practitioner), SER, Lotus, BT, Smartlogik and Cedar.

The two-day event was supported by an exhibition from the top players in the KM and Customer Relationship Management market space including top performers Autonomy and Sopheon.

The event objectives were aptly summarised as follows:

The conference that puts knowledge into action

Knowledge and management - two ingredients for a great conference

At the KM 2001 conference, we aim to cut through the hype around KM. The conference will deliver lively - sometimes contentious - debates and presentations about what really matters in the field of KM today. It will also provide delegates with inspiration, firmly rooted in reality, about how KM tools and practices can help improve their businesses through an insight into current practices and emerging thinking in the key areas of KM content, culture and capability.

Issues that will be explored and explained by speakers drawn from the leaders in the study, deployment and implementation of KM will include: e-government and e-learning, leadership and virtual team working, getting users involved, in-house and outsourced solutions, knowledge asset management, plus a wide variety of case studies from organisations in different business and not-for-profit sectors.

Topics covered will include:

e-government and e-learning
leadership and virtual team working
getting users involved
in-house and outsourced solutions
knowledge asset management

- plus a wide variety of case studies from organisations in different business and not-for-profit sectors.

ECC have made some important contacts during the conference and expect to introduce the teachings of the conference into their current KM offreings within the coming months.
